Support MMS

Support MMS

Meadow Montessori School is a non-profit organization (501 C3). As an independent school, we survive only on tuition and contributions. The support parents, grandparents, friends, foundations, and other extent to us is vital. With increased support we will not only survive, we will thrive in the years to come. Please support us our efforts to offer a truly independent education in Monroe County.

Annual Gift

Meadow Montessori School’s annual budget is dependent on annual gifting. Approximately 10% of our income comes from annual gifts made by each and every family. In order to keep our tuitions low enough for families in the Monroe area, we must rely on a gift of $750 for each student enrolled. In addition, we invite former families and friends to continue to support us.

Capital Campaign

The Capital Campaign is one way for all the members our community, as well as the larger community, to invest in independent education.

In 2003, Meadow Montessori left its home of 19 years at St. Mary Center for a Home of Our Own, at 1670 S. Raisinville Rd. Two years earlier, MMS launched its first and only capital campaign with a goal $1.5 million. This amount was needed to complete Phase I of our building project. In a short amount of time, we raised $1 million, yet we still have rooms and spaces to name before we move on to the second phase of our building project.

Please contact Catharine Calder (ccalder@meadowmontessori.org) for additional information. Pledges and gifts are needed immediately if we are able to acquire land for future expansion.

Sol Sun Soccer Field

In September 2010, the world lost a shining light with two-year old Alex Weakly passed away unexpectedly. His loving parents, Adam and Val, wished to see something created in his memory, and before long funds were pouring in for the Sol Sun Soccer Field. The field was dedicated in September 2011, and we hope to be hosting regular games in 2013.

We are still in need of funds for goal posts, a scoreboard, and benches. If you wish to make a donation, please contact Marina Harvey (mharvey@meadowmontessori.org) for additional information.

Scrip

Scrip is a gift certificate program that generates revenue from participating merchants, as well as local and national retailers. Scrip can be used to purchase everyday items, such as food, clothing, gas and dining.

Meadow Montessori purchases the gift certificates at a discount and then sells them back to parents at face value. The discount we receive is the revenue earned.

Parent Guild Fundraisers

The MMS Parent Guild currently is conducting three fundraisers. Support us in any or all of the following ways. Contact Marina Harvey (mharvey@meadowmontessori.org) for additional information.

Wrap It Up
Innisbrook online only fundraiser is in progress now through November 20, 2012. There are hundreds of great items to purchase. You can order at any time online with our customer id number: 104231. All purchases will be shipped to your home and you will receive free shipping on any order over $85. Please invite your friends and family to support our school by using our id number when making their purchases.

Throw the Phone Book At Us!
Don’t throw your old phone book away!!!! Starting today MMS has been entered into a phone book recycling contest sponsored by AT&T. The first place winner will receive $400 and the winner is determined by the weight of the books collected. Please drop off your old phone books to the designated dumpster at the back of the parking lot. This program is open to the public, so please encourage your friends and family to help us.

Suzie’s Sweets and Eats
Purchase your holiday popcorn, nuts, and other treats while earning money for our school. Beginning November 12th, you can place your order for outstanding holiday treats made right here in Monroe. This fundraiser will end on November 26th, so sell to your friends and family over Thanksgiving break. Suzie’s popcorn will be delivered to the school on December 10th.

Endowment

Meadow Montessori School is seeking to establish an endowment. An endowment would allow us to strengthen our programs and provide for the school’s future. Endowment dollars are invested, the principal of the original gift is protected, and they grow. As the fund grows, the Board of Trustees’ conservative spending policies protect the assets, but allow MMS to use a portion of the earnings. Just like personal savings or investments allow you to improve or maintain your home, purchase a new vehicle, pursue your interests, or provide an education, a Meadow Montessori endowment would allow us to provide our students with the best possible education now and well into the future.

Please contact Heidi Burroughs, Director of Finance at (734) 241-9496 or email her at heidiburroughs@meadowmontessori.org for further details on how you can help with this important new chapter in Meadow Montessori’s future.

Gifts by Bequest

Please consider Meadow Montessori School in your estate plans. Gifts by bequest are simple to execute and with Meadow Montessori’s 501(c)(3) IRS status as an educational institution there may ultimately be a reduction in your estate taxes.

MMS alums, parents and supporters can designate the school to receive a specific amount of money, property or a percentage of their estate; to receive all or a portion of the residual of your estate (the remainder after all specific bequests to family and friends are fulfilled); or to be the contingent beneficiary.

A gift by bequest might be worded: “I give, devise and bequest to Meadow Montessori School for its general purposes all (or state a fraction or percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal” or “I give, devise and bequeath to Meadow Montessori School the sum of $_______ to be used for the general purpose of the school”. Your bequest to MMS can also take the form of cash, securities, real estate or other tangible personal property.

This gift option may provide a reduction in taxes to your estate. We recommend that donors consult with tax counsel or their legal adviser prior to finalizing a bequest or major gift other than cash or securities.

Donors are encouraged to meet with Cathé Calder or Heidi Burroughs before designating bequest gifts to specific programs, for current information on the specific needs of the school as well as giving programs, and naming opportunities in regards to restricted funds.

Please contact Heidi Burroughs, Director of Finance at (734) 241-9496 or email her at heidiburroughs@meadowmontessori.org for further details on how you can help with this important new chapter in Meadow Montessori’s future.

By planning ahead, members of the Monroe community who include MMS in their estate plans will leave a legacy for future generations of students.

Gifts of Security

Meadow Montessori School accepts gifts of stocks, bonds and marketable securities. A charitable contribution often results in both the tax savings on the capital gains and the charitable deduction of the full value of the gift on the day of transfer.

For more information please contact Heidi Burroughs, Director of Finance at (734) 241-9496 or email her at heidiburroughs@meadowmontessori.org for further details on how you can help with this important new chapter in Meadow Montessori’s future.

IRA Giving

The IRA Charitable Rollover was made permanent law and was one of the many items included in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015, legislation signed by President Obama during the 4th Quarter of 2015. This popular giving option which allows individuals 70½ or older to make entirely tax-free gifts to charities was renewed retroactively to January 1, 2015. These gifts also satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year the gift is made.

While the IRA rollover provision is now a permanent law, please note that anyone wishing to make an IRA rollover gift for the current year must do so before December 31st. The following restrictions apply:

  • You must be 70½ years of age
  • Tax benefits apply for gifts up to $100,000 per person per year
  • Only outright charitable gifts can be made (not life-income gifts such as charitable gift annuities)
  • Our gift must be made to a public charity such as Meadow Montessori School (not donor-advised funds or private foundations)
When making this tax-free donation to MMS please ask your IRA Administrator to send the distribution check to:
